filming grid

This is our filming plan, and shows how we will stick and schedule with this process, as without it we won’t effectively film proper scenes and get the film, produced and edited before the Christmas break. The grid shows a description of what we need to do each day, and the times we need to do it in, it and the content the task requires.

Our group are going to start filming next Monday, being the 15^th November when we have printed all our photos which are going to use for our two minute film opening, so this is the filming plan:

The location: we are going to be filming at Parrises house because it is close the school meaning transport won’t be a problem and the house will fit with the demands that the location required. Also as its not a public place the only permission we will need to film there is Parrises which we already have.

We will also be filming outside on a street near and around Parrises house, as part of the film opening and we will then be taking location shots to post on this blog as part of our planning.

The actors: all the actors will come from members of our group, I will play the stalkers victim and will be the only actor in full view of the camera, the other actors will take in turns to change roll as the stalker and only shadows, hands and behind the head shots will be seen as the stalkers character to keep the suspense and mystery of the stalker under wraps until later on in the film

Whilst others are being filmed the other group members will take it in turn to film and directing the film so we can each have a role completing the final outcome.

The filming: whilst filming we will have to consider, lighting, and timing when filming both inside and outside, and particularly whilst filming outside we need to ensure that the background and surroundings don’t change during the period we film. As change in the location will question continuity of the film. We also have to plan the times we can use the camera, and fit the schedule into our other commitments.

Title

During the title sequence of our film opening, titles will appear with the names of the actors, production team and directors of the film. We will be writing these names on the photos of the stalkers victim, and won’t be using a computer to design them. Although we will need to find out what type of font we should use to create a sinister atmosphere to the opening film scenes.

These fonts, our fonts we liked as we wanted to imitate a scruffiness instead of perfect handwriting:

We used www.dafont.com to choose our font, as the website offers a large range of fonts under different themes, and all of these came under the theme of handwriting, we finally decided that the font we will use for the tiles will be based on this font:

Called Clive Barker, we chose this font because it look quite foreboding because of the scruffy script effect and because it doesn’t look feminine, as we would like the audience to believe that the stalker wrote on the Polaroid photos.

Location Shots

When we finished our animatic, we then had to decide where we going to shoot our film, and decided as the sequence will only introduce the 'stalker' character in a mysterious light only one setting will be used in the filming and that is the dark room where photos of the victim will be included and new photos of the girl will be seen being developed. these are pictures of the dark room, which will add to the mystery of the mise en scene

Target Audience

Our film is based on a thriller, meaning that the certification for the film needs to be considered as scenes of trauma will be aired and therefore not everyone will legally be able to see the film. Obviously having a certificate U, PG, or 12 would not be appropriate as strong language and scenes of violence can not be taken lightly. So the choice was between certificate 15 or certificate 18.

After looking at the guidelines which make up a 15 certificate film, we realised that an 18 certificate would not be needed as sex, strong language, nudity, horror and imitable behaviour are allowed within reason as part of a 15 certificate film.

So basically, the target audience for our horror film ‘’eye spy with my little eye’’ is a 15 certificate

Our animatic

The animatic storyboard really helped plan the next stages of creating our film, although the animatic did show faults such as a wobbly camera it help us learn the effect of filming techniques. And give us ideas on the overall lot of our story. Although we are guaranteed to change our minds I think the storyline and general ideas worked well when looking back and were pretty clear to the audience the idea of a stalker in the mist.

The music we used in the animatic we thought went extremely well with the tension levels and overall atmosphere  of the 2 minute opening and decided we would use this music on our actual filmed and edited version.

Costume ideas

Although horror films may not fill a specific stereotypical genre for their costumes, the characters still need to be identified as either evil, or good. In the first opening two minutes of our film we only have two characters the stalker aka. Bad and the recipient being the young girl aka. Good, the stalkers full body nor face will not be seen in the film opening yet shadows and dark clothing will be used to identify him from being a ‘bad guy’, when the film introduces the young girl she will be wearing simple casual clothing (jeans and a pale coloured top for example) in order to highlight both her innocence and both her identity as being a ‘good guy’..

In the opening film sequence, there will be a scene where the stalker will be staring at a wall covered in photos of his victim, in these photos stereotypical costumes will be used to show her hobbies and lifestyle, in the photos pictures of her in a group of friends with all the friends blurred and just her appearing, she will be seen as a popular young cheerleader, and in the Polaroid’s pictures of her will surround the room with her in all sorts of different outfits. during this scene the stalker will be seen as a shadow and no face will be scene just a dark shadow

Film Analysing

The opening scene of any film is used to engage, advertise and attract the target market. This audience are meant to be introduced to the characters that will be fore filling the two hours or so in the cinema seat, and people are meant to be able to have inkling of what will happen throughout the movie, well these are the guidelines or the ingredients that are suggested in making a good film.

In Shrek 2 the first 2 minutes certainly engage the audience and introduce them to the first sign of an extremely comical motion picture. I chose to right about this film because after watching three films this week this was the one that in my mind was the most memorable and enjoyable out of all three which also included ‘The sixth sense’ and ‘shallow grave’.

The film begins with the introduction of the institutions which produced the film these include ‘DreamWorks’ and ‘PDI’ after viewing the moving logos of both company’s the following scene in the movie is a black slide reading ‘a PDI/DreamWorks production’. This scene is played with background music. This is seen as very recognisable to the Shrek films and seems very fairytale like and enchanted.

The next scene sees the book in which ‘the fairytale’ is written appear and then open and this is where the narrative voice over begins which comes in the form of the character of Prince charming, he begins reading the pages in the book reading ‘Once upon in a kingdom far away’ he carries on reading with the pages turning until the point ‘of the handsome prince charming’ the book then fades away and the next sees the prince on horseback to the tower where Fiona was kept  through snow and dessert weather, day and night... the comedy begins when the prince takes of his metal helmet to reveal a hair net keeping his ‘perfectly groomed hair in place’ this gives the audience an instant knowledge to the new character as they become aware he is very vain, he then goes on to spray himself with perfume before ‘searching for Fiona’ the next part sees the prince enter Fiona’s tower opening the net curtains to review a relaxed wolf reading a magazine, but where’s Fiona? On Honeymoon of course the wolf replies.

This then follows on it the opening song ‘Accidentally in love’ which is set in a home video form of the ‘happy couple’ at their honeymoon home, the title of the film then appears in ‘Fireflies’ which then buzz away. The humour of the couples honeymoon then appears on the screen with ‘Fiona shaving her face next to the usually hairy Shrek’. Then little red riding hood appears and runs away in disgust at the sight of the ogres and then a scene with the couple kissing on a beach is ‘rudely’ interrupted by ‘the little mermaid’ other references to other films are also found in the opening sequence with, a ‘Spiderman’ like upside kiss, a ‘lord of the rings’ wedding ring, and ‘tinker bell’ being trapped in a jar.

Media Film Ideas

For our media coursework we have to produce a two minute film opening, making it look professional, sleek and conventional to our chosen genre… difficult I know yet me, Olivia and Pariss, will try our best to recreate a typical horror/thriller film.

After looking at films from all different types of genre we decided on the thriller, simple because we had the most ideas for it, and thought that if we worked hard, we could create a moving picture fit enough to rival another A level Media team.

We decided on the idea of an obsessive stalker who preys on young girls. Our film shall make clear to the audience in the two minutes that it is about a stalker because of the very obvious settings and props we will be using-

We are going to use Polaroid’s, yellow tape, video footage and other sinister props to position in a white room the room is going to be covered in this with ‘someone’, a ‘shadow’ in ore of it all. The idea is that the camera will pan over the room quickly and then settle and zoom into some of the chosen Polaroid’s, on the white part of these photos we will write the name of the directors, actors, and producers and these will be seen in one of the first scenes.

The room will also hold a simple box television which will show video footage of this young girl that the stalker is preying on him; we will then use several editing techniques in order to recreate a more sinister persona to the entire two minutes. We were thinking of rewinding footage so it looks like it is playing backwards. And at the beginning having the title of the film written in lipstick and then being wiped off backwards.

Although these are all rough ideas I think they will come across when we’ve done more planning and research as very realistic and hopefully not at all amateur, and maybe one day you might see this idea as a block buster movie premier in the cinemas across the world, but aye maybe one day.

why i choose media at A LEVEL!!

well is'nt it obvious, firstly i loved media at GCSE level and eneded up getting an A! so how could i not choose something i really enjoyed.. secondly, media is so important in our lives in this era, and is something i would like to be involved in when i grow up, and thirdly because..., well i can't think of a third reason but those two are valid enough to prove how media studies will have an impact in my future life plus i LOVE it :)
